Why I Became a Breathwork Coach
The first thing they say in business is figure out your why.
I’ve been doing this recently, and if I’m honest, with a journal and pen it got quite deep.
Generational patterns, personal experiences and whilst that does play a large part in why I personally have done the work… the question still lies – why am I so determined to support others?
Stress, Silence and My Personal Experience
My personal experience around stress, the mystery illness, the heart palpitations the time I missed on school – it’s all due to the culture of silence and lack of education around stress.
I was a child, what did I have to be stressed about?
I wasn’t taught anything about stress or fear – how it impacts the nervous system, hormones, immunity, sleep, energy levels, digestion.
Why Breathwork Matters
But still, today, with all the work that’s been done on mental health, the burnout report in 2025 shows there is STILL a culture of silence around stress.
One in five (21%) admitted their productivity or performance was impacted by high levels of pressure or stress but that they didn’t adjust their hours or take time off work.
Nearly one in five (19%) chose not to disclose their high levels of pressure or stress.
9 in 10 experiencing high or extreme levels of pressure or stress in last year.
Breathwork course – Let’s break the silence
So my why?
Because there is still SO much work, education and support to do around stress.
Because I don’t want to be silent in something that is a normal physiological response and can simply be supported with deeper understanding and more education.
Because young people ages 18-34 are taking the brunt of stress (cost of living, being underpaid, high workload, fear around job security) and those years are the years for fun, travel, living – not stress, overwhelm and burnout.
Maslow’s hierarchy of needs show we need safety and our physiological needs to be able to move up the hierarchy, but are we actually hitting those basic needs in the current world?
My Why as a Breathwork Coach
In reflection, maybe I have a few why’s.
But the reality is, stress isn’t going anywhere and unless you improve your relationship with it, educate people around it and change the silence culture around stress – it’s going to flood your body, dysregulate you and take you on a painful road to burnout and something so simple as breathwork can be the key to changing that.
